I'm looking for a new ISP, after I reached my tolerance for bad service last week.
I already checked out a few review sites but didn't find them that useful. What are your suggestions?
As for virgin.net, I think they are the new AOL. The service has a large market share but completely sucks, and they have sold out to the scum that is phorm. Also, it was really hard for me to get them to cancel my account, just like the stories you read about AOL.
You'll find two types of ISP out there these days. Those with bandwidth caps, and those who are lying about not having bandwidth caps.
From my experience, I would recommend Zen because I've had a solid service from them. Certainly not the cheapest, but when I switched ISPs about a year ago, I asked around and collected the horror stories, of which Zen didn't have any.
Some people just don't like paying for what they use, hence all the fake unlimited services out there.
Beware of mergers! Lot's of ISPs seem to have merged lately, and you are never going to get good service from the TimeWarner-AOL-Enron-NTL:Telewest-Virgin mega corporation.
